CDF Battles Four Fires Over The Weekend

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — CDF reports several fires over the weekend.

Spokesman Craig Hart says a fire at about 1:00 Saturday afternoon on Expedition Drive off of Phoenix Lake Road did about $4000 in damage to a tool shed before spreading to a nearby house which sustained an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Hart says most of the damage was confined to the home´s bathroom and roof. One CDF air tanker responded to the scene along with a CDF air attack, a helicopter and four engines.

Hart says the cause is believed to be combustion of oily rags in the shed. Meanwhile, crews were also called to a 38-acre grass fire just after 2:30 in the afternoon on Bonds Flat and Highway 132.

Authorities responded to that blaze with one CDF air attack, as well as two air tankers, a helicopter and 9 CDF engines, in addition to two bulldozers, two Baseline crews and a U.S. Forest Service engine.

Hart says one fire fighter sustained a minor injury in the blaze. The fire was apparently started by fireworks use.

In a 3rd incident, crews were called to a fire in the Columbia Mobile Home Park which did about $10,000 damage to a trailer house late Saturday afternoon. Hart says fire crews responded to the location shortly after 5:00.

Investigators determined the cause of the trailer fire to be faulty wiring. Six engines reported to the scene.

Finally, Hart says crews also responded to a vehicle fire at about the same time on North Tuolumne Road which did an estimated $2000 in damage to a Toyota pickup.
