Farmers Worry About Crops After Storms

Sponsored by:

Agriculture is big business in Northern California and this week´s series of strong storm systems has almond growers down the hill, in the valley, keeping a close eye on crops.

Almond grower Dennis Plann says it may be several weeks before farmers know whether the barrage of wet and windy storm systems have disrupted pollination.

“The main problem facing growers is having adequate flight time for bees to pollinate crops.”

The precipitation came during the height of the almond bloom, when trees must be pollinated by bees in order to produce a crop. Muddy fields are also creating some headaches for farmers attempting to move heavy machinery in and out of fields.
