Four Lodi Men Detained For Possible Links To Al Qaeda

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Federal authorities have detained four men they believe are linked to an al-Qaida terror cell in Lodi.

Twenty-two-year-old Hamid Hayat and his father, 47-year-old Umer Hayat, were arrested over the weekend on charges of lying to federal agents.

F-B-I special agent John Cauthen says both men made a brief appearance Tuesday in U-S District Court in Sacramento.

On Sunday, the F-B-I was notified that Hamid Hayat, a United States citizen, was attempting to fly from Korea to San Francisco.

In the middle of that flight, it was determined that he was on the “No Fly” list.

The plane was diverted, Hamid Hayat was interviewed and he is accused of training in an al-Qaida camp in Pakistan to learn “how to kill Americans.”

The F-B-I says two other men, Shabbir Ahmed and Mohammed Adil Khan, are being detained on immigration violations.
