Mele Vs. Memmer For Tuolumne County Sheriff-Coroner

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Two current members of the Sheriff´s Department, Jim Mele and Tom Memmer, faced off Monday evening during Candidates Night in their efforts to take over the top spot in November.

Mele commented that community involvement is set by example and that is why he successfully gained a position on the Curtis Creek Board of Trustees because he wanted to be involved in the lives of his children. Mele listed his top three priorities for the department as improved wages, an increase in patrol and jail staff personnel and the updating of equipment including vehicles and computers.

As far as community involvement is concerned, Memmer would like to establish a cadet program for teens in addition to the formation of an alcohol and drug program for middle and high school students. When the discussion centered on priorities, Memmer stated that he would like to renew the reserve deputy sheriff program and create a street and drug supression team to combat, what he feels, is the threat of the drug culture and gangs moving into the Mother Lode from the valley.

The general election is set for Tuesday, November 7.
