Sonora, CA– A Soulsbyville woman is in jail after striking a pedestrian and fleeing the scene Friday.

Yesterday evening 55-year-old Joanne Dues was traveling eastbound on Highway 108 near North Sunshine Road when she drove her car to the right and onto the paved asphalt shoulder.

The male pedestrian, whose name is being withheld to the time being, was walking eastbound about six feet off the roadway, when he was struck from behind by Dues´ 1993 Ford Crown Victoria. Highway Patrol officials say the pedestrian was propelled over the hood of the Ford, into the right side of the windshield, and then over the right side of the roof of the vehicle.

After hitting the pedestrian, Dues failed to stop and drove her car to her residence in Soulsbyville. Witnesses, who followed Dues, called the Highway Patrol to report her location.

Dues was not injured in the collision. The pedestrian however, suffered major trauma and was flown to the Memorial Hospital in Modesto. Dues was arrested and booked for felony drunk driving and felony hit and run related charges.
