Sand Flat Fire 75% Contained

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — According to Stanislaus National Forest officials, the Sand Flat Fire is 75% contained as of early Wednesday morning.

Spokesperson Jerry Snyder says Mother Nature was extremely kind to the Tuesday firefighters. The winds and thermal updrafts that hampered aircraft Monday afternoon dissipated Tuesday allowing a full air attack on the 300 acre fire near the Clark Fork and Sand Flat campgrounds.

Three firefighters have suffered minor injuries. Those injuries include a back strain, burns from falling rocks and an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

Snyder adds the cause of the fire remains under investigation. It has been determined that it was human caused.
