Assessed Values Up In Calaveras

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Assessed property in Calaveras County is up $1 billion.

Assessor Randy Metzger announced Monday that assessed property values are up 17.4 percent over 2005, for a total of $6.3 billion.

What that means is a moderate increase in what the county receives from property taxes.

The assessed value of property within the county creates the basis for property taxes. The tax base is 1 percent of assessed value. Out of that 1 percent, the county receives 17 cents per every dollar. The rest of the 1 percent goes to the city of Angels Camp, special districts and schools.

7,800 properties out of the 43,000 countywide were assessed this year. Half were new construction. The other half were assessed because of a change in ownership.

Metzger says it´s the largest increase he´s seen in his time as assessor.
