California Schools Faulted For PE Minimums Violations

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — A review by education officials of California´s public schools says more than half the schools checked are failing to abide by state rules requiring that students get a minimum amount of exercise.

A check by the state Department of Education of 73 school districts found that 37 of the districts didn´t have their students spend at least 20 minutes a day in physical education class.

California requires that children in the first through sixth grades complete an average of 20 minutes per day of physical activities.

The mandate is doubled for students in the seventh through 12th grade. The results of the review were released after the nonprofit group California Center for Public Health Advocacy obtained the documents from state officials.
