Sonora, CA — A Sonora youth is in custody after leading Sheriff´s Deputies and CHP Officers on a high speed chase Sunday night.

Lieutenant George Ruckman of the Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department says 19-year-old Carl Greenway was arrested after he crashed a car that was reported stolen.

Ruckman says the pursuit began near Hillsdale Drive in Sonora at about 10:30 when a Deputy noticed the car Greenway was driving had no rear license plate and a burnt out tail light.

When the officer attempted a traffic stop, Greenway reportedly accelerated. Ruckman says the pursuit reached speeds of 95 miles-per-hour as it progressed along Highway 108.

Ruckman says the chase ended when Greenway crashed the Honda Civic near Long Barn. Greenway then fled the scene on foot. Ruckman says 19-year-old Buddy Taylor, who was riding as a passenger, also fled.

A female juvenile was found in the back seat complaining of leg pain. She was transported to Tuolumne General Hospital for treatment.

Greenway was later arrested at his home and booked into the county jail on felony evasion charges, as well as leaving the scene of an accident, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. He remains in custody on $10,000 bail.
