Lightning Caused Fires Continue To Burn In Yosemite

Yosemite, Ca — Four lightning caused fires are currently being managed in Yosemite National Park.

According to Yosemite officials, allowing smaller fires to expand under moderate conditions prevents fuel build-ups that can contribute to fires of catastrophic proportions.

Forty-three firefighters are currently assigned to monitor these fires. The largest is the 100 acre Devil Fire, which is highly visible north of Yosemite Valley along Cascade Creek. It is predicted to grow by 10 to 50 acres per day until wetter conditions move in later this week.

The second largest blaze is the seven acre Jack Fire, located two miles north of Wawona. The Cotton Fire located in the north end of the park and the Johnson Fire near Crescent Lake are both less than one acre in size.
