Taser Guns Are The Newest Tool Of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Dept.

Sonora, Ca — Criminals who resist arrest in Tuolumne County may soon learn what a taser gun feels like.

The Sheriff´s Department has purchased 12 guns. 10 of which will be used by deputies in the field and the other two at the jail.

According to Lt. George Ruckman,They are used to establish control so that we do not have to use greater force. In a lot of the circumstances that law enforcement is confronted with, our only other alternative is lethal force. Obviously we want to do everything we can to avoid lethal force. The taser helps bridge that gap quite well.”

Ruckman led a demonstration on the new equipment earlier today. Many in the department had a chance to feel first hand what it is like to be the victim of a taser gun.

“It feels like you are getting hit with a bolt of lightening,” says Lt. Dan Bressler.You can´t do anything but fall. It hurts for about five seconds, or until they let off the trigger.”

Each individual taser, with 50,000 volts of power, costs an estimated $800.
