Sierra Snowpack Improves

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — State officials are encouraged by a recent snow survey that shows the Sierra snowpack has improved since last month.

The survey was conducted off Highway 50 on March 2 after the late February storms. It shows the statewide average snowpack water content is nearly 65 percent of average to date. One month ago it was only 40 percent.

The state Department of Water Resources says above average precipitation in February has improved the water outlook after a very dry January.

The snow survey chief says now the state is now where it was at this time a year ago. Snow surveys help state officials determine the year´s water supply.
