Boyack In DC To Lobby Congress

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County´s Steve Boyack is in Washington DC, lobbying the new legislature to re-authorize the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act.

The act has added to the funding of Tuolumne County following the loss of tax revenue because of a decrease in logging operations. The act has provided the county with $2.5 million annually.

County Supervisor Dick Pland was among a group from the county who lobbied the legislature last year, and says there is bi-partisan support for re-authorization. Pland says,The stumbling block is where the funding will come from. That´s been the stumbling block all along, particularly with the efforts of Katrina and Iraq and so on.” He says it is something that Congress needs to decide and solve if it is going to be successful in the effort.

Pland notes that Boyack is just one of a hand full from the state of California making the trip this week to specifically talk about the issue.
