Hwy 108 Corridor Traffic Project Proving Successful

Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — Thanks to the $309,000 Sonora Pass Gateway Traffic Corridor Project grant from the State Office of Traffic Safety, the mileage death rate on Hwy 108/120 from the Stanislaus County line to the Pinecrest turnoff has been drastically reduced during the past six months.

The grant funding allows the CHP to place extra officers on the road to catch anyone driving erratically or over the posted speed limit.

?What we are seeing is that a lot of the tickets we are writing are not locals, and they are people coming up from the valley,? says CHP Officer Tom Wills. ?A lot of the locals are learning that the Highway Patrol is out there and they are writing tickets.?

Within the Hwy 108 corridor there has not been a single fatality since the inception of the grant, which is set to expire on May 31st of next year.
