Sponsored by:

Sacramento, Ca — Caltrans has announced that funding will be coming to the Mother Lode for a variety of transportation projects as part of the Community Based Transportation Planning Grant Program.

Locally, a project in Valley Springs will receive the largest share of state money. ?Rural Smart Growth: A Community-Based Plan For Valley Springs? will receive a grant of $204,648.

?We´re really excited for the community of Valley Springs, because they have been looking to update their community plan,? says Tyler Summersett, Transportation Planner for the Calaveras Council of Governments.

CCOG has agreed to put up a $51,162 matching grant to help with the effort. Caltrans has also set aside $45,000 to CCOG to update the short range Calaveras Transit Plan.

Meanwhile, the Tuolumne County Transportation Council will be awarded $82,000 to help put together a five year Transportation Plan.

The funding is contingent on approval of a state budget and is not anticipated to arrive until prior to January of 2009. Caltrans announced over $9 million in grants statewide.
