Calaveras County Initiates Use Of Reverse 911 System

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Prior to last weekend´s series of storms, the Calaveras County Sheriff´s Department initiated the use of its new Reverse 911 system to warn west county residents (San Andreas, Burson, Wallace and Valley Springs) of possible flash floods and potential high wind damage.

Special Operations Bureau Commander Clay Hawkins says the $1 million system was purchased for the protection of the county´s citizens. Prior to the storms 6,700 residences were contacted with a recorded warning of potential danger.

The system is tied to Pacific Bell´s data base. The Sheriff´s Department can isolate any geographical area in the county in order to send a prerecorded warning message on an auto-dial basis.
