Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — For those of you who may be contemplating a career in politics or public policy, applications are now available for the ´08-´09 California Senate Fellows Program.

The program provides college graduates an opportunity to become full-time Senate staff members at the state Capitol.

14th District State Senator Dave Cogdill of Modesto has had six fellows in his office during his eight year legislative career. Cogdill says once an applicant is approved he or she interviews a number of senators and then selects an office in which to work.

Responsibilities include researching public policy issues, helping develop legislative proposals, analyzing and staffing legislation, assisting with constituent inquiries and casework, participating in meetings as the Senator´s representative and writing press releases and speeches.

Fellows are paid a stipend of $1,972 a month plus health, vision and dental benefits. They earn 12 units of graduate credit from Sacramento State University for the academic portion of the program. The fellowship runs from October, 2008 through August, 2009.

Click Senate Fellows Program for the application form and a brochure detailing the program. The application deadline is Thursday, February 28.
