Summit Fire Closing In On 4,000 Acres Burned

Santa Cruz County, CA — As of Sunday evening the Summit Fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains had burned 3,920 acres.

29 residences and 18 outbuildings have been destroyed. Close to 3,000 firefighters are on scene with five injuries reported. None of the 3,000, though, are from the CAL Fire Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit.

Overall 97 fire crews, 278 engines, two airtankers, 10 helicopters, 35 dozers and 47 water tenders are fighting this blaze which started Thursday at 5:17am.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation. The fire is currently listed at 60 per cent contained. Cost of fighting this fire to date; $8.16 million.
