Fire Restrictions In High Hazard Areas Of Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, Ca — Because of the dry conditions, the Forest Service is enacting temporary fire restrictions effective this Wednesday in the High Hazard Areas of the Stanislaus National Forest.

“We´re encouraging everyone to stop into their local ranger station before heading out to their campsite to make sure that they understand exactly where the fire restrictions are in effect,” says Spokesperson Pat Kaunert. “Every ranger station has a map, and staff will be able to help folks find the best place to camp.”

The fire restrictions prohibit campfires, briquette barbeques and smoking outside of developed campgrounds in the designated high hazard areas.

Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski noted, “Hot, dry weather and tinder-dry conditions continue to persist in high hazard areas of the Forest. This Forest Order serves as an extra measure to help reduce the potential for large and damaging wildfires. We are asking the public´s cooperation in helping us prevent destructive fires before they start.”

The temporary fire restrictions will remain in effect until the end of the 2008 fire season, or otherwise terminated.
