Storms Cause Multiple Lightning Fires

Sonora, Ca — Saturday night´s lightning storms ignited an estimated 337 fires in the Northern California region, according to Lisa Williams of CAL Fire.

In the Tuolumne-Calaveras jurisdiction for CDF, there were 16 vegetation fires reported. The eight in Tuolumne County have all been contained. In Calaveras County there were eight fires in the Arnold and Dorrington areas. Five have been contained and three are still burning. The largest is the Airola Fire, which is 20 acres and in the area of Big Trees State Park.

In the Stanislaus National Forest, Spokesperson Jerry Snyder says that there were over 10 fires reported last night, and the largest is the 150-200 acre North Mountain Fire in the Groveland Ranger District near Yosemite National Park.

Currently no structures are at risk with any of the fires, and there are no major road closures in effect.
