Virga Comments On Unsettled Times At C.D.C.R.

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — Sierra Conservation Center Interim Warden Tim Virga admits these are very unsettled times for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Overall the legislature has called for a $1.2 billion reduction in the C.D.C.R. budget.

There are now five vacant warden positions due to many taking early retirement because of the loss of state vehicles and furlough days which has cut into take home pay. Those were the principal reasons why former S.C.C. Warden Ivan Clay retired recently.

Those five openings include S.C.C., San Quentin, Folsom, the California Institution for Women (Chowchilla) and the California Reception Center.

Virga adds that he would very much like to be named as the permanent S.C.C. warden because of the outstanding staff and the community like atmosphere, both inside and outside the O’Byrnes Rd. facility.
