C.C.W.D. Warns Of Billing Scam

San Andreas, CA — The Calaveras County Water District is warning residents about a payment scam.
Some customers have recently received what appear to be automated phone calls telling them that their account is overdue, and directing them to provide their credit card number for payment. C.C.W.D. Finance Director Jeffrey Meyer says that the district does not engage in automated call collections, and all notices are sent via mail.
Anyone receiving such a call requesting immediate payment of a water bill by credit card should note the time and date and any phone number (If equipped with caller ID). The information should be reported to the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department at 209-754-3543.
