Planning Commission Recommends Law And Justice Center Approval

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA – With a series of 5-2 votes, the Tuolumne County Planning Commission is recommending that the Supervisors move forward on proposed Law and Justice Center project.

The Commission voted in favor of certifying the Environmental Impact Report, adopting a mitigation monitoring program, determined that it is consistent with the county’s General Plan, and recommended that it be rezoned to allow for public use.

The $253 million facility would house a County Jail, Sheriff’s facility, Superior Courts, CHP Office and other offices. The plan is to build it in multiple stages.

Voting in favor were Commissioners John LaTorre, Jerry Morrow, Patrick Stone, Connie Williams and Robert Steele. In opposition were Tamara Mitchell and Jerry Baker.

According to Community Development Director Bev Shane, a hearing before Supervisors will likely come in early October.

The 48 acre property is located on Old Wards Ferry Rd. off the Hwy 108 Sonora Bypass.
