Lightning Strikes Cause Additional Yosemite Fires

Yosemite National Park, CA — Several new lightning caused fires were discovered Saturday in Yosemite. 

The half acre Grouse Creek fire is burning in brush and downed logs.  It is within the 1990 Steamboat Fire perimiter east of Hwy 41. Smoke from this fire is visible in many areas of the park. 

The tenth of an acre Indian Creek Fire is burning approximately one mile north of the rim of the Valley in needle litter and downed trees. Smoke from this fire is visible throughout the day from Glacier Point. 

Also new is the quarter acre Smith Fire approximately two miles northeast of the 96 acre Cottonwood Fire.
