Swine Flu Triggers Health Alert

Sonora, CA — The death toll from swine flu has now surpassed the century mark in Mexico.

According to Tuolumne County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp approximately 40 cases have been reported in the United States but there have been no deaths. 13 cases have been confirmed in California … three at a Catholic school in Fair Oaks.

Dr. Stolp comments that swine flu is a virus that to date, is so new it is unknown to our body’s immune system. Swine flu is transmitted through droplets in the air that are a result of coughing and/or sneezing.

He adds that mild flu symptoms are not of great concern. However if a person continues to have a fever (100 degrees or more), experiences a shortness of breath, skin color appears dusky, or develops exercise intolerance he or she should immediately seek medical attention.
