TuCare, which is celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year, received great news on Wednesday. The Sonora Area Foundation announced that it will award a $15,000 Grant to the organization.

Executive Director Melinda Fleming was Thursday’s KVML Newsmaker of the Day.

Fleming said, "The Tuolumne County Alliance for Resources and the Environment (TuCare) was established to enlighten and advise the public on conservation and the wise use of our local natural resources. This Grant will allow us to continue to carry on our 20 year tradition. We’re very happy."

TuCare is involved in issues related to public and private lands usage which TuCARE feels is essential for a vital and functioning local, and state economy and the organization has provided various educational programs to school children which at times includes hands-on field trips.

One annual event for the organization is the "TuCare Dinner" which is open to the general public. The dinner will begin at 7pm with cocktails starting at 5pm at the Elks Lodge on Saturday March 14th.

Speakers include former Tuolumne County Supervisor Shirley Campbell, Assemblyman George House and Congressman John Doolittle. A 20 year trip down memory lane will be on display.

Early bird tickets are available before March 1st for $20 by calling (209) 586-7816. After March 1st, ticket prices will go up to $25 per person.
