Car Thieves Arrested In Sonora

Sonora, CA — A pair of suspected car thieves were arrested in Sonora Monday afternoon by Sheriff´s deputies.

A suspicious gold Honda was located in the area of Rogers Rd. around 2pm that had turned up stolen out of the Sonora area.

Two hours later deputies located a green Honda traveling in the same area, and a check of the plates concluded that it was stolen out of Pittsburg, CA.

Deputies pulled over the vehicle. The driver, identified as Gary Leroy Hartman, fled on foot into a wooded area. A passenger, Cindy Marie Durbin, complied with the deputies requests and was taken into custody.

Additional deputies, the CHP and Sonora PD were called to assist and eventually Hartman was captured and arrested.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the two were associated with the earlier stolen vehicle. Hartman, one of Tuolumne County´s “Most Wanted,” was booked on outstanding warrants for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and fresh charges of possession of stolen property, vehicle theft and obstructing a peace officer.

Durbin was booked for possession of stolen property, vehicle theft and having an outstanding bench warrant.
