Travel With Caution This Morning

Sonora, CA — The CHP is advising motorists to travel with caution this morning due to the heavy rainfall.

“If you come upon running water moving across the road, the recommendation is to never drive through it,” says Officer Mike Remmel. “You only need about a foot and a half of water to lift your vehicle off the roadway.”

Street flooding and mudslides have been reported across Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties this morning. The most notable incident involved a rockslide closing down Parrotts Ferry Road during the six o’clock hour this morning. It will reopen around 9am. Heavy water on the roadways has been reported on Highways 4, 108 and 49. There were rocks reported on Tuolumne Road near the Woodham Carne Rd. intersection, but that has now been cleaned up. Penon Blanco Rd. near Granite Springs Road in Tuolumne County is closed due to flooding. New and Old Priest Grades have also had reports of mud and rocks in the roadway. Those are just a few of the locations that have been experiencing weather related problems.
