WATCH Resources Receives Grants

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– WATCH Resources, a local nonprofit agency that provides support to adults with developmental disabilities, received two major grants last month.

One grant will support its day-to-day operations and another will help buy a building in Sonora. The Sonora Area Foundation will provide a $40,000 matching grant to help the agency purchase a building with more space and better parking, and the Irving J. Symons Foundation, a supporting organization of the Sonora Area Foundation, provided a $25,000 grant in honor of the late Jane Symons.

“We were happy to be able to help WATCH with this,” said Lin Freer, Sonora Area Foundation Program Manager. “We’ve helped them in the past and they do so much for the community and our developmentally disabled.”

WATCH was founded in 1972 and has about 180 clients in Tuolumne and Calaveras County, providing a range of services including daily work experience, life skills and recreation programs and independent living support. Clients range from young adults to seniors, with a wide range of developmental disabilities.

The WATCH grants were among half a dozen approved by Sonora Area Foundation trustees in October.
