56 Injured In Prison Riot

Sponsored by:

Jamestown, CA — 130 Sierra Conservation Center inmates were involved in a Monday morning riot at the prison.

SCC Spokesperson Lt. David Fish says 56 inmates sustained injuries, six had to receive treatment at an onsite medical facility, and one was taken to Sonora Regional Medical Center because of puncture wounds to the chest. The inmate admitted to SRMC is reportedly in stable condition.

“The investigation into why the riot occurred is ongoing,” says Lt. Fish. “There were two weapons found, one was a stabbing type instrument and the other was a slashing type instrument. These weapons were made by inmates and recovered in the riot.”

The 130 inmates were from rival Hispanic gangs at the prison. No prison staff injuries were reported. The riot started on a Level 1 yard which houses low risk inmates.
