Caltrans Cleans Up Trash

Sonora, Ca — Caltrans workers recently spent a day picking up litter across both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties.
The event was in partnership with the California Highway Patrol and the organization Keep California Beautiful.
Caltrans reports that 106 trash bags were filled in Tuolumne County along Hwy 108. In Calaveras County, 96 bags were filled while working along Hwy 4 and Hwy 12.
Last year, Caltrans spent approximately $60 million in taxpayer funds to pick up and dispose of 160,000 cubic yards of litter and debris along California highways and roadsides.
Some of the main problems have been failure by residents to properly cover loads and improperly disposing of cigarettes.
