Sacramento, CA — Today marks the second day of California’s plan that will reduce its prison population by approximately 65-hundred inmates over the next year.

A three-judge panel has called for the release of 40,000 inmates over the next several years. The plan calls for inmates who have been deemed “low risk” offenders to be released in order to reduce the state’s reported $20 billion deficit by cutting the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation budget by $1.2 billion.

From State Senator Jeff Denham; “San Francisco Police Officer Bryan Tuvera and Los Feliz teenager Lily Burk were both violently killed by allegedly “non-violent” prisoners. Marlon Ruff was assigned to a minimum security camp for non-violent inmates before he escaped and killed Tuvera and Charlie Samual was on parole when he robbed and killed Burk.”

Denham’s final comment and we quote, “If these high and mighty federal judges want criminals out of prison, they should voluntarily take some of them into their own homes.”
