San Andreas, CA — The San Andreas CHP Office has confirmed that 25-year-old William Mack of Valley Springs has succumbed to injuries sustained in a New Year’s Day traffic collision.

Mack was the passenger in a vehicle driven by 22-year-old Brittani Strain, also of Valley Springs.

According to the CHP report Strain was driving under the influence and at an extremely high rate of speed on Baldwin Street west of Gabor Street when she lost control of her 2003 Hyundai and collided with a small rock retaining wall. She suffered only minor injuries, but Mack was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He had to be extricated by fire personnel.

According to Officer Becky Myers Mack was removed from life support Tuesday at 11:10pm at the U.C. Davis Medical Center. The January 1st accident occurred at 12:53am.

Strain will now be charged with Felony DUI Manslaughter. She remains incarcerated in the Calaveras County Jail.
