San Andreas, CA — An early Friday morning single vehicle accident has left a Valley Springs resident unconscious and in critical condition at the U.C. Davis Medical Center.

According to C.H.P. Officer Becky Myers 22 year old Brittani Strain of Valley Springs was traveling westbound on Baldwin Street west of Gabor Street at an extremely high rate of speed at 12:53 am when she placed her 2003 Hyundai in a locked wheel skid. She subsequently lost control of the vehicle which skidded more than 250 feet before colliding with a small rock retaining wall and overturned onto the driver’s side. Debris from the impact was found more than 90 feet from the point of impact.

The passenger, 25 year old William Mack III of Valley Springs, was not wearing his seat belt. He was partially ejected and pinned by the vehicle. Fire personnel cut away the top of the vehicle to extricate the unconscious Mack.

Both individuals were transported to Mark Twain-St. Joseph’s Hospital. Mack was immediately flown to the Intensive Care Unit at the U.C. Davis Medical Center where he remains unconscious this morning.

Strain was treated for minor injuries, arrested by the C.H.P. on a charge of Felony Injury DUI and booked into the Calaveras County Jail.
