Indigeny Hears Neighbors Concerns
Sonora, CA – The owners of the Indigeny Reserve are asking the Tuolumne County Supervisors to rescind two sections of their Conditional Use Permit.
Indigeny Reserve is a 160 acre organic apple ranch, ciderworks and distillery located in the Apple Valley region of Sonora. There have been concerns raised in the community that the future operations could negatively impact the quiet rural setting.
Owner Jay Watson is now requesting that the county eliminate the section of the permit that allows for the processing of fruits not grown on the property, and eliminate a second part that would allow large special events.
“We’ve listened to concerns and want to be good neighbors,” says Watson.
Watson says the initial request to bring in fruit grown off the property was to ensure that they would be protected in the event of a bad frost year. If bad weather impacts harvest, he could still potentially go to the county and request that it be allowed at that particular time.
Indigeny Reserve plans to fully open its tasting room in early 2012. Watson says the proposed changes should not have a notable impact on their operations.
