Lawsuit Filed Against Housing Project
Sonora, CA– A lawsuit has been filed by neighboring residents opposed to a new housing project east of Sonora.
Residents of Quail Ridge Ranch have filed a lawsuit in Tuolumne County Superior Court challenging the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisor’s recent approval of the Red Tail Ridge Project. The lawsuit has also named the developer, SDS Ventures.
The Quail Ridge residents, represented by Altaville attorney Anthony Salazar, say that implementation of this project will subdivide the existing unimproved site into nearly 50 home sites and extend area roads in a high fire area with limited water supply. They also believe the project will destroy nearly 5,000 mature trees, and impact water supply, public safety, and traffic.
In court documents, the residents state that in approving the proposed project under these circumstances, the County violated the requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) by certifying a Mitigated Negative Declaration despite evidence that the project may have a significant impact on the environment.
On August 16th the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to allow the 46 lot housing project to move forward.
The proposed Red Tail Ridge Project subdivision is located 1.7 miles northeast of the Greenley Road and Cabezut Road intersection. It is spread over 534 acres.
