All Is Fair In The Motherlode

The Motherlode Fair in Sonora is ready for fun through Sunday.

Motherlode Fair Manager, Jan Hadenmeyer was Thursday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.

The Fair began in 1889 as the Tuolumne County Fair & Horse Show on Racetrack Road, then reinvented itself in 1938 as the ‘Mother Lode Fair’. The Fair is now situated on 25 acres, south of downtown Sonora, on Stockton Road (Hwy 49).

The Fair will run tonight from 4 p.m. through midnight, 1 p.m through midnight on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. through 11pm on Sunday.

Tickets prices this year are $8 for adults, $6 seniors, $4 kids (6 – 12) and children five years old and under are free. Today only, all admission and amusement ride prices are half price.

Plenty of musical entertainment includes thirteen live bands.

The grandstand arena will feature motocross tonight, truck-pulls on Friday and Saturday and the popular demolition derby on Sunday.

Additionally, fairgoers will find plenty of food, exhibition booths and lots of animals including the Junior livestock auction on Saturday at 5pm.

Black Oak Casino will be providing free shuttle service from the Wal-Mart parking lot and Courthouse Park all four days of the fair. The shuttles are highly recommended as local traffic near the fairgrounds will be busy throughout the weekend.

The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
