Renovations Delayed At Visitor Center

Angels Camp, CA– A wet spring has delayed renovations at the New Melones Lake Visitor Center and Museum.

The renovation that began January 31st, will improve accessibility and bring the facility into further compliance with the American Disabilities Barriers Act. The renovations were to be completed this spring.

“Mostly due to the weather, there’s been some delays getting things completed at both the Visitors Center and at the campgrounds in the Tuttletown Recreation area,” said Melones Lake Resource Manager Jeff Laird. “There’s also been some challenges in researching and getting things approved for some of the equipment and devices that are needed at the Visitors Center.”

The $1.38 million project will include improvements to walkways, parking, entry ways, lighting, signage and a fire alarm system. These improvement projects are made possible by funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009.

“If anybody would like to visit the Lake and the Visitor Center, it’s open seven days a week,” said Laird. “Portions of it may be closed for a short period for a day or two while the contractor comes in and makes repairs, but folks can call our office at 209-536-9094 to get updated information on the Visitors Center and when it will be open.”

Renovations are expected to last until August.
