Visitors Bureau Seeks Permanent Location
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Visitor’s Bureau no longer operates a Visitor’s Center at the Highway 108/120 Yosemite Junction.
TCVB Executive Director Nanci Sikes was the AM 1450 KVML Newsmaker of the Day Wednesday morning. During the interview she stated that they were forced to leave the former site because the owner has decided to have it demolished. She says the Visitor’s Bureau has big plans though, and hopes to eventually open a new Visitor’s Center directly across the street.
In the short term the Visitor’s Bureau is looking into the possibility of renting a portion of the Chinese Camp Fire Station. The traditional kickoff to the summer tourist season is Memorial Day Weekend, so they hope to have plans in place soon.
While the Visitors Bureau still operates a Visitor’s Center near downtown Sonora, Sikes says it is important to have the second location near the Yosemite Junction. “Many of our visitors are in route to Yosemite National Park, and it’s important that we capture them at the 108/120 entrance and make sure that they know that there are places to stay, dine and play in Groveland,” says Sikes.
Sikes notes that negotiations regarding the two proposed locations are still preliminary.
