Rock Quarry Going Before Supervisors
Sonora, CA — The Tuolumne County Supervisors will hold a public hearing Tuesday on plans for a rock quarry near Jamestown.
The Cooperstown Quarry project has been recommended for approval by the Tuolumne County Planning Commission. It would be located on around 280 acres in the southwest corner of the county. The property is owned by Jack and Tricia Gardella.
In endorsing the project, the Planning Commission made a series of recommendations. They include that the applicant make improvements to Cooperstown Road, plant new oak trees to offset those that will be removed, the hours for loading train cars should be 5am to 10pm, and rock products loaded in cars should be watered down to control dust.
The project has raised concerns from some officials in Oakdale and Riverbank because of the increased amount of rail traffic that would go through their cities. It could cause longer waits at railroad crossings in the Central Valley.
The Supervisors Public Hearing will be held at 1:30pm, Tuesday, in the Supervisors Chambers.
