Murphys Resident Voice Heard Around The World
Sonora, CA– Murphys resident Aubrey Anthony had a simple dream. She wanted to be the voice of an anti-virus software program.
Anthony was Wednesday’s KVML “Newsmaker of the Day”.
Although she had no previous broadcasting or voiceover experience, she set out to make her dream come true. The Mother Lode Internet Customer Service Representative had been familiar with the Avast anti-virus software through her employer.
“Avast when installed will let you know when its virus database has been updated by actually saying it,” said Anthony. “It’s a woman’s voice and I’ve always mimicked it kind of jokingly. One day I told my boyfriend that I wanted to be the voice of Avast and he said, “go for it.”
Anthony decided to email the Avast marketing director at the company’s headquarters in the Czech Republic of Prague to get more information. The marketing director sent Anthony a few scripts to voice including those that read “download complete” and “welcome to Avast.” Although she was nervous, she submitted the recordings.
“My voice was shaky but I got it done,” said Anthony. “I sent it off and that next week I got the contracts to actually be the new voice of their new 6.0 release of Avast, and now it’s on there.”
Anthony says she did not receive a talent fee for her Avast voice work but says that doesn’t matter to her.
“This is kinda bragging rights in the geek world,” said Anthony. “My voice is going to be heard internationally. It’s just for fun and just something kinda cool.”
The “Newsmaker of the Day” is heard each weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
