Building Permits On The Decline

Sonora, CA — As the economy has soured over the past several years, it has been a period of slow growth for the City of Sonora when it comes to issuing building permits.

Looking at city data over the past ten years, the peak came in 2004 when 49 single family home permits were issued, and 324 total permits (includes renovations and additions to existing structures).

Through the first nine months of 2012, there have been three single-family home permits and 162 total permits. Here are the numbers over the past decade:

2002 – 28 single family home permits and a total of 315 permits
2003 – 15 single family home permits and a total of 270 permits
2004 – 49 single family home permits and a total of 324 permits
2005 – 24 single family home permits and a total of 298 permits
2006 – 34 single family home permits and a total of 309 permits
2007 – 3 single family home permits and a total of 271 permits
2008 – 4 single family home permits and a total of 240 permits
2009 – 3 single family home permits and a total of 249 permits
2010 – 1 single family home permits and a total of 252 permits
2011 – 1 single family home permits and a total of 250 permits
2012 – 3 single family home permits and a total of 162 permits
