State Debates Birth Control Bill

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — A law that would allow nurses to dispense birth control contraceptives has passed the California Senate.

AB 2348 would allow women to receive pills, patches and rings from Registered Nurses. The Associated Press reports that the bill was pushed by Democrats, who argued that there is a shortage of physicians and clinicians in the state, which is leading to delays for women to receive contraceptives.

Some Republican opponents argued that the practice would reduce medical standards in California. The bill now goes back to the Assembly for a vote.
