$50,000 Upgrade At Library

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The first phase of a complete makeover of the Sonora Main Library’s Community Meeting Room is complete.

The county received a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant in the amount of $37,494 for the project. The Friends of the Library gave $12,506.

The equipment installed includes a new sound system with several types of microphones and assisted listening devices, an ADA compliant podium, blu-ray dvd player, laptop connections, central projection and a large viewing screen.

Lynn McCormick, Literacy Librarian says, “All equipment will be available for use by community groups for presentations, as well as for the Library’s literacy tutor training, computer classes, public movie programs and special events that are part of children’s summer reading activities.” McCormick mentioned that the Mother Lode Art Association, Mother Lode Weavers and Spinners, and Tuolumne County Genealogy Society groups also regularly use the meeting room. Many of the activities are listed in myMotherLode.com’s event calendar.

McCormick says Scheduling the meeting room is done through the Tuolumne County Facilities Management. McCormick is developing a recommendation for the sign up process that includes training on how to set up and use this new equipment. She noted they are really excited to see the clear pictures and it is amazing at how fast the equipment can be set up.

Grants and other funding are being sought by Friends of Tuolumne County Library for smaller projects to complete the makeover, including new window coverings to block daylight during presentations with the projector. Also new easier to move and set up furniture, energy-efficient heating, cooling and lighting.
