Ozone Levels In National Parks

Sponsored by:

The air that you breathe in Yosemite National Park may not be as clean as you think.

A new Associated Press report looks at which national parks have the most ozone pollution. Yosemite National Park ranked fourth on the list when it comes to the highest smog levels.

Yosemite had eight days last year when it exceeded national limits set by the EPA. The report shows that three of the top four ozone polluted parks are located in California. Sequoia National Park led the list with 87 days, Joshua Tree National Park had 56, and Great Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina had 12.

Yosemite was tied with Rocky Mountain National Park (eight), and followed by Big Bend National Park in Texas (seven) and Mojave National Preserve (six).

The United States has 58 National Parks.

Information from the report was compiled from the National Park Service and Environmental Protection Agency.
