$140,000 Burglary Investigation

Railroad Flat, CA — Calaveras Sheriff’s Deputies have made three arrests in an investigation of a March 30th burglary on Top Dollar Road in Railroad Flat.


The total dollar amount of the items stolen in the residential burglary exceed $112,000. Numerous vehicles including an ATV, tools, guns, jewelry, and other items were stolen. Homes, garages, and shops were forcefully entered causing damage to the buildings in excess of $28,000.


According to a statement released by Calaveras County Sgt. Chris Hewitt, “On an unrelated contact approximately three miles from the burglary scene, deputies spoke with Donald Tarrance (57) of Railroad Flat.” Tarrance was found to be in possession of the stolen Honda ATV from the burglary and further investigation revealed he had altered vehicle identification numbers on his personally owned vehicle.


Two other items were recovered recently a traffic stop in Valley Springs of Ismael Marquez, 34, and Micah Spearing, 39, both from West Point. A jacket and a firearm stolen from the Top Dollar Road burglary were in the car. Spearing is considered a suspect in connection with the stolen and recovered ATV. Marquez was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Both subjects were booked into Calaveras County jail where Spearing was found to be in possession of a bag of suspected methamphetamine.


According to Sgt. Hewitt, the investigation into the case is ongoing, several search warrants were obtained and served during this investigation and several people may be involved in the burglary.
