Mother Lode Churches Ready For Easter Sunday

Sponsored by:

Country Cowboy Church, located in east Sonora, is one of the many local churches that will be celebrating Easter Sunday.

Pastor Jack Bettencourt and his wife Denny Bettencourt, were Thursday’s KVML “Newsmakers of the Day”.

Before their marriage, the two grew up near each other in the central valley towns of Gustine and Newman. Jack grew up in cattle ranching and went into ranch management. Denny knew of Jack, but described him as a wild man that she wanted nothing to do with. Jack wouldn’t back down in asking her out. They will soon celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary!

Through ranching, the Bettencourts moved to Angels Camp in the mid 1980’s. In 1994, they moved to Sonora.

Country Cowboy Church began in 1991 as a small group meeting, led by rodeo announcer Coy Huffman. Today the Church is located at the end of Peaceful Valley Road in east Sonora. The Church is a non-denominational Christian Church and is not affiliated with other churches that have similar names.

Most Christian churches throughout the Mother Lode will hold special services and/or events both on and leading up to Easter Sunday, April 21st.

Asked if Easter is a special time for the Church, Pastor Jack responded, “Without Easter we have nothing. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is nothing to stand on. He was a prophet. He was a man who followed after God. We can say a lot of good things about Jesus, but without the Resurrection, that is the proof of the pudding.”

The Bettencourts invite the community to come celebrate Easter on April 21st with the regular Sunday service at 10:30 AM. Afterwards, hang out with the friendly folk of the church and enjoy some complimentary refreshments. You do not need to be cowboy, cowgirl or even own a horse in order to attend.
