TCEDA, Bowling Alley, And City Clerk On Sonora Council Agenda
Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will meet on Tuesday this week since Monday is President’s Day.
On the agenda is a proposal to further reduce the window of time required to provide notice to leave the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority. The Joint Powers Agreement has stated since its inception that 180 day notice must be given prior to the new budget year by the City of Sonora or County of Tuolumne if one chooses to leave the TCEDA Joint Powers Agreement.
Late last year the city requested additional time to make a decision because it was waiting on the results of financial and management audits. The county agreed to reduce the notice period to 120 days. Now, the county has learned that the audits may not be ready until late this month or next month, and is requesting that both parties reduce the period to 60 days.
In other business, the council will vote on filling the vacancy of retiring city clerk Marijane Cassinetto. Her four year term is set to expire in 2020. The council had the option of appointing someone to fill the role during the interim, or hold a special election. There will be a resolution voted on to have new councilmember Colette Such fill in as the City Clerk Pro Tempore until the next election.
Also, the council will review a proposed zoning ordinance to allow indoor self-storage businesses to operate with a use permit. This is currently not allowed, and meeting documents note that business owner Joe Pluim of Plum Construction requested the change so that the former bowling alley at 19 South Stewart Street can be used in this capacity. The idea was earlier endorsed by the City’s Planning Commission.
Tuesday’s meeting will start at 5pm at Sonora City Hall.
