Calaveras School Custodian Arrested For Criminal Threats

Sponsored by:

Valley Springs, CA — An employee at Toyon Middle School in Valley Springs was taken into custody for allegedly threatening a co-worker and making statements about bringing a gun to work.

72-year-old Fred Westbrook of Mokelumne Hill is a member of the custodial staff. An administrator called the sheriff’s office stating that Westbrook reportedly made threatening statements against the co-worker and also told others at the school about plans to bring a firearm to work. The administration quickly took steps yesterday afternoon to ensure that Westbrook was not on campus, and last night he was arrested by deputies for making the criminal threats. He was booked into Calaveras County Jail on $50,000 bail.

The sheriff’s office has put out a statement reading, “Given that the workplace in this incident is a middle school campus, the seriousness of the situation was recognized and immediate intervention and action was taken. No students were involved in the incident and there has been no reported threats involving students.”

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
