Bambi May Welcome This Forest Burn
Sonora, CA — The Stanislaus National Forest is planning another prescribed burn at the end of this month – this one will not only aid the public, but also wildlife.
The Jawbone Understory Burn set to ignite at the end of this month in Tuolumne County along the Groveland Ranger District boundary is expected to last up to eleven days. Low-intensity fires in increments of 50-150 acres will be burned daily for a total of up to 1,676 acres. Forest officials details that the size of burn areas may vary with weather, fuel moisture and air quality conditions permitting.
The targeted goal of this broadcast underburn will be to improve wildlife habitat, while also promoting public safety by reducing fuels capable of igniting large wildfires. Possible smoke plumes may be visible from highways 4, 108 or 120 and surrounding communities.
This is a prescribed burn so motorists and the public are asked not to report the blazes a wildfire.
